• Ethical Washing: This involves promoting a company or product as adhering to ethical standards that are either loosely defined or not genuinely upheld. This can include claims of fair trade practices, responsible sourcing, or ethical governance, when the reality falls short of these promises.

The consequences of whitewash finance can be significant. It can mislead investors, allowing them to unknowingly support unethical or unsustainable businesses. It can also erode public trust in the financial system and hinder genuine efforts to address social and environmental issues. Ultimately, it allows harmful practices to continue unchecked, contributing to negative social and environmental outcomes.
